Power and Conflict revision activities in this worksheet

  1. Identify titles of each poem and the poet.
  2. Fill in the missing words from the quotations. Attempt as many as possible without looking at the anthology.

  4. Pair up at least six of these quotations and explain how you would use them to make a comparison between the poems. You can decide on the theme that links them for yourself.

How to use this resource for Power and Conflict poetry revision

This revision resource helps students evaluate key themes in conflict poems from the Power and Conflict cluster, such as ‘The Emigree’, ‘Ozymandias’, ‘Kamikaze’, and ‘Storm on the Island’. It supports an understanding of themes like the power of nature and personal identity in contexts of power and conflict.

Students can use the worksheet to analyse poetry style, form, and structure, focusing on rhyme schemes and linguistic techniques like metaphors, similes, and caesura. Once completed, the worksheet serves as an additional revision guide.

The resource also aids discussions on poets from the cluster, including Wordsworth, Browning, and Hughes, emphasising details in poems like ‘War Photographer’, ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’, and ‘The Prelude’.
